3 REASONS YOU’RE STRUGGLING TO FIND YOUR PURPOSE
Feel like you’re wading through mud? Or is it more like lost at sea? Everyone around you seems to know what they want to do with their lives, but much as you try to figure it out, the answer evades you. The frustration is real! Listen, I have been there. I have a well worn' ‘will someone please tell me what I am meant to do with my life because I have no clue’ t-shirt. I spent way too many hours bemoaning my confusion, scrolling for answers. If you’re reading this, then you’ll know I found my purpose, so let me share the three big reasons that are stopping you from finding yours.
YOU THINK IT’S GOING TO BE ONE THING
If I had to guess, I’d say you’re waiting for the clouds to part and whatever higher power floats your boat to speak directly to you, to tell you this is the reason you’ve been put on this earth. And sure, that could happen.
But, it’s more likely to be a little ‘huh.’ moment. An intuitive nudge that puts you on the right track, and it’s only when you get there that the light bulb goes off. So - follow the nudges. Just because it doesn’t feel like a huge ‘aha!’ doesn’t mean it’s not the direction to go in. Try it and you might surprise yourself.
YOU’RE PARKED AT PROCASTINATION STATION
Good ol’ procrastination, our favourite way to self-sabotage our efforts. If we don’t try, we don’t fail - easy! You are never going to find your dream if you don’t take any action. Finding your purpose is no easy task - if it was everyone would know theirs, right? So you have to put some effort in. What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? Do what you need to do to keep life ticking over, and ditch the rest of your distractions. Put your phone in the other room while you journal or research those interests of yours that have been gathering dust at the back of your mind. Cancel the night out in favour of getting up earlier the next day to volunteer somewhere that interest you. Do. The. Things.
3. YOU’RE GOING IT ALONE
Last but not least, you’re trying to figure it all out by yourself. Yes, Google and YouTube will give you some ideas, some answers. The self help books will work for a while. Why don’t any of them stick? Because they aren’t personalised to you. They aren’t able to objectively look at your blind spots, cut through all the B.S, give you the answer you need. You can absolutely coach yourself - please do. It all helps. But there will always come a point where you need someone else to step in and give you the wisdom and perspective only someone who’s made the climb can have. If you’re doing all the things and it’s still not happening, reach out to a coach. It’s their job to help you find your purpose.
So, go forth and conquer my friend. Stop waiting for the ‘aha’, stop procrastinating and find someone to help. Sorted!
